Chef Marie began baking the summer of 2000 with her mother. Soon after, she began selling brownies and wedding cookies at local retail shops and markets in her home town of Puerto Rico. As a result Mother and Daughter's Delights, a home based business, was born. Thereafter baking and cake decorating became her passion and every new cake became a challenge.
While still in middle school she took baking and cake decorating classes at Casa Antonio, a recognized academy for the pastry arts in The Island. At the age of fifteen Chef Marie made her first wedding cake. Later on, while enrolled in The University of Puerto Rico pursuing her degree in Business Administration she continued developing recipes and converting sugar into works of art.
Simultaneously, Chef Marie complemented her degree with Photography and Art courses which lead her to participate in numerous exhibitions including a Lithography exhibition held at the Puerto Rico Museum of Fine Arts and a Photography exhibition held in New York City.
In 2010 Chef Marie relocated to Providence, Rhode Island pursuing her dream of becoming a Baking and Pastry Chef at the renowned Johnson and Wales University. There she trained and worked side by side some of The Country's most renowned chefs. Had the opportunity of working at the Foxwoods Hotel in Connecticut and Food and Wine Festivals among other Events. In 2011 she traveled to Peru to attend the distinguished University San Ignacio of Loyola enrolled in a continued education program focused on traditional and new Peruvian desserts and techniques. A few months after, she relocated to Tampa, FL bringing with her the ambition of opening her own custom cake shop. After working in various bakeries in the Tampa Bay Area, she realized the need for a high quality made from scratch cakery.
Hands on Sweets was created in April of 2012. Soon after, Hands on Sweets' work started to be recognized and published. Some of the publications include CNN Latino, Tampa Bay Times, Australian Baking Magazine and multiple blogs such as Style Me Pretty, Ever Last Detail, Green Wedding Shoes, and more...
